Serving Portland artists and audiences, the 2022 Fertile Ground Festival, a program of the Portland Area Theatre Alliance (PATA), will be held January 27 – February 6, 2022.
Fertile Ground 2022 will be in a virtual format, and uncurated.
Our decision to go virtual again for FG22 comes after a great deal of deliberation, with regard to the Delta variant and beyond, and knowing the many unknowns that performing arts are facing in a landscape that continues to change. Fertile Ground 2022 online will be different than last year’s festival. For 2021, Fertile Ground essentially produced the projects given to us for public consumption. This year, the festival will return to functioning as the marketing platform for Fertile Ground projects of new works, and producers will produce/premiere their work using the platform and time of their choosing.
Until 2021, Fertile Ground was an uncurated festival – the only parameters being that the project was NEW work and that the artists involved were Portland-area based. Being uncurated is a feature that is unique to our festival. Organizers want to continue to provide a platform for all area artists to share their new work with new audiences.
Continuing the work forward from our efforts in 2021 to address equity and access barriers to participation in the festival that exist for underrepresented artists.* Fertile Ground, with the GROW Panel adjudicating applications, will select 5 GROW Award recipients to receive $500 to be used in production of their Fertile Ground project. For FG22 they will also identify GROW Panel selected projects with the aim of informing festival goers of key projects that involve artists and stories from underrepresented communities, as well as encourage typically underrepresented artists to be a part of Fertile Ground and elevate that work.
2021 REGISTRATON period for ALL interested artists begins September 13 and ends October 15 (no exceptions).
