Quality of Death is a play addressing end of life issues. What happens when people recognize their end of life journey is beginning but have loved ones and caregivers who may not be ready for them to board that train? The play follows several families/couples who are navigating this process. Scenes take place in various living settings and a support group where the characters explore the pain, humor, and dignity involved in dying.
The author (an actress and speech language pathologist) has drawn on her twenty-five years of experience in home health, palliative, and hospice care as well as experience with friends and family. In addition, interviews with physicians, nurses, therapists and death doulas, some of whom have experience in assisted death and voluntary stopping of eating and drinking (VSED), have greatly informed her writing.
The author is grateful to all involved and to the Regional Arts & Culture Council for the grant helping to support this production.
