A woman of her time, Sarah delayed motherhood as education, career endeavors, lack of sperm and lack of support all clouded her journey until it was almost too late. This solo-show chronicles the trials of one woman whose desire to become a mother during an age of liberation made her a rebel, a warrior, an anarchist and a science experiment. Told with heart-touching candor and witty humor, this story covers the difficult ground of family-making for the post-feminist female. “I always wanted to be a mother, and yet, becoming a mother was not really something our mothers wanted for us. During a time when the term “Planned Parenthood” has become synonymous with abortions and pregnancy prevention, how can our society embrace and teach young woman and men to truly think about and responsibly include family planning into their adult lives? I hope that in sharing my story, other woman will be empowered to share theirs.” – Sarah E. Shively
