The cast and crew of the Nightshade Theatre Company struggle to find its way when Dmitri Drabek, director and spiritual head of the troupe, dies suddenly. They have been performing Dimitri’s (incomprehensible) avant-garde work for 15 years. And they have no idea what to do next. Posturing, pretentiousness, political agendas and creative differences set off one argument after another. But in the midst of their bickering, a discovery is made. Dmitri’s final, unfinished play. Now the cast has a mission—to stage one final performance of Dmitri’s work, putting on the show of their lives that will cement his immortality as an Unqualified Genius.
In the middle of rehearsing what they believe will be Dimitri’s glorious send-off, however, they come to realize that Dmitri was a complete hack. That everything he ever wrote was “avant-garbage.” And their careers have all been one big joke.
