SUNDAY ~ February 7

By Alissa Jessup
Directed by Dan Kitrosser
Producer: Asteroid B612

In CHOSEN, Alissa Jessup tells the story of, at age 30, finally meeting her birth mother Donna.  In taking us through this story with all of the humor and magnetism Portland audiences have grown to love from Jessup (Profile Theatre’s Sweat, Portland Playhouse’s Pipeline), Jessup dives deep into the story of both Donna’s abuse which led to her giving Alissa up for adoption, and then, in a swift, poignant and heart-wrenching turn, detailing Alissa’s own history of sexual  abuse. But this is also a love story between Alissa and her adopted mom, Barb, who chose Alissa as her daughter. CHOSEN is Alissa’s personal narrative, but it also story of women– resilient, loving and hilarious women–who rise above the stories that have been imprinted upon them, and write their own endings. Directed by Dan Kitrosser (LineStorm Playwrights), this is sure to be a soulful evening filled with laughter and tears, as only Alissa can do.

“It’s my story of being adopted in the 70’s, raised by a single mom, meeting my birth mother  and knowing myself. Identity. Motherhood. Womanhood. Ancestry. Family. Nature. Nurture.  Women’s reproductive choices. Rape. Molestation. Addiction. Self Love and Laughs! It has all  the BIG ONES.”
