Do You Believe in Magic is a new solo performance-in-progress from veteran performer, coach and creative guide Faith Helma. This experiment picks up where Helma’s “weirdly cathartic” manifesto from last year (I Hate Positive Thinking) left off: diving deep into the question of whether magic is real and if so, can we summon it onstage. Helma leads a series of performance experiments, rituals and spells using the tools of her trade: a makeshift altar, a magic carpet, a microphone and a DigiTech JamMan looping pedal. If you ever believed in fairies as a child, if you signed up for a magic class and were disappointed that it was only card tricks, if you’ve been hiding the part of you that believes in an invisible world: this performance is for you. Let’s summon that world. Let’s make some magic onstage. “Helma shapes her metamorphosis into an elegant and vulnerable piece.” –Oregon ArtsWatch “Think Samuel Beckett meets Mr. Rogers meets Dear Sugar.” – Portland Mercury “My favorite thing about Faith was that she yelled ‘DOES ANYONE WANT TO DO THE DIRTY DANCING LIFT WITH ME?’” – The Verge
